Obama for being naive enough to think that any mention of lipstick would not be attached to Sarah Palin, John McCain for exploding into rage about it, and, of course, the press for covering it til we were all blue in the face.

I don't want too waste too much time on this, but I want to set the record straight that I do not think that Obama was meaning to be as viscious as the McCain camps is trying to paint him out to be. I put plenty of blame on John McCain for acting like an unltra-sensitive Democrat, pulling the sexism card at the first chance. This was my problem with picking Palin in the first place - the GOP is now playing identity politics (let's face it, as much as I love her and believe she is very qualified, the main reason he picked her was because she is a female). I HATE identity politics. No one should chose someone based on race or gender, and no one should rule someone out based on the same criteria. Big Mac is sounding like a whiney liberal who can't understand why he/she losing (even though he's winning). It does McCain no good, in fact it probably hurts him. He should have let sleeping dogs lie, and when asked say something like, "I'm not going to analyze every little thing Senator Obama says. If he was referring to my running-mate, then that is a very disappointing commentary on his character. If it was just a dumb mistake, then let's move on and talk about the issues."

Obama could have stopped the whole charade, as well. After McCain lashed out in outrage, Obama could have simply said, "That's not at all what I meant. Looking back I can see how it was construed that way, but I was simply using a common addage that has been misinterpreted." Instead, of course, Obama decided to be snide, sarcastic, and dismissive about the accusations, finding another way to link the McCain campaign to the last eight years by saying that this is the type of thing that has people "sick and tired of politics in this country." I think he came off very condecending and proud, and I don't think that does his camp any good.

In the end, all parties blew this up into a huge thing that it never should have been. And now I'm blogging about it...*sigh*...

Media Double Standard

I hope to give more commentary later, but I thought this editorial laid it out great how the media has been very biased in its reporting/investigating:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/09/the_unexamined_life.html

Closing the Gap

In an election year that should be a shoe-in for Democrats, the race is a statistical tie. One tracking poll shows McCain with a five point lead, others give Obama the slight edge, within the margin of error.

Please do not let the liberal media convince you that Obama is unbeatable. The New York Times last week published an op-ed by Senator Obama about his policies on Iraq and Afghanistan. This week they refused a submitted article on the same subject by Senator McCain.

Click here to read the rport about the NTY.

Click here to read the op-ed that the NYT blocked.

The irony (and hypocrisy) is found in the editor's reason for not publishing the piece. Davis Sharpley, NYT op-ed editor and former Hillary Clinton speechwriter, said that he would only accept a piece from McCain if it "mirrored Senator Obama's piece." No, Im' not distorting that quote. You read it right. He goes on to say, "The article would have to articulate, in concrete terms, how Senator McCain defines victory in Iraq. It would also have to lay out a clear plan for achieving victory — with troops levels, timetables and measures for compelling the Iraqis to cooperate." This is a real quote. I'm not kidding you. Mr. Sharpley plain and simple stated that they would only print McCain if he would lay out his plans the way Obama wants him to lay out his plans.

What's most hypocritical is that Obama's piece didn't offer any new information, nor did it set any "concrete" terms, timetables, or anything that Mr. Sharpley claims is required.

Click here to read Obama's piece.

Someone please tell me why I shouldn't be OUTRAGED at this!!

Obama on Iraq

I'll write more later, but here is a link to the op-ed Obama wrote in the NYT about Iraq. A few notes:

Obama writes:
"After this redeployment, a residual force in Iraq would perform limited missions: going after any remnants of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, protecting American service members and, so long as the Iraqis make political progress, training Iraqi security forces. That would not be a precipitous withdrawal. "

This contrasts with later statements:
"I would make it absolutely clear that we seek no presence in Iraq similar to our permanent bases in South Korea, and would redeploy our troops out of Iraq and focus on the broader security challenges that we face."

So does he want them all out or not? Who knows. He doesn't want to committ to getting every signle troop out of Iraq, knowing that it would be a suicidal maneuver. But he also wants to be the anti-war candidate that promises the world to his lefty friends who are pretty mad at him now. I dont' think he's a "flip-flopper," I think he is just void of guiding principles, other than the most recent polls and trends.

The Race is Tightening Up

Entering the dog says of summer, the presidential race is heating up. Recent polls show that Senator Obama's lead of as much as 8 points (using the RCP average) has dwindled down to as little as 1. Looking at the polling results from the past few months, it's notable that Senator Obama has rarely blipped above 50% into a real majority. Even with the recent closeness Obama has not dropped lower than 44%. I've come to several conclusions:

Independent Voters: Comparing past polls to recnt onces suggests that many undecided voters have hopped into McCain's camp. Whereas in months past as much as 20% of voters have been undecided or for a third candidate, recent polls show that many of those voters are bulking up Senator McCain's polling percentages. That suggests to me that independent voters are leaning heavily toward McCain.

Obama's Shiftiness:Obama's inability to obtain a decisive majority points out his gaping inability to close the deal with undecided voters. The idealism, inspiration, and and charisma that originally attracted voters to his campaign are beginning to fizzle as Obama shifts to the center and admits to the practicalities of running for and serving as President.

United GOP: The Republican party has apparently mended itself after a brutal primary season. Remember when the mainstream media was prediecting that the GOP race would go to the convention while the Dems would wrap it up after Super Tuesday? Well most Republicans have forgotten their bitterness and settled back down into the coalition.

Splintered Dems: Angry Hillary supporters and blue collar white voters are several groups who don't seem too happy with voting for Barack Obama. Don't forget that Obama lost in primary landslides in Kentucky and West Virgina, along with the crucial states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. And how could we forget about Florida and Michigan? The former is leaning heavily to McCain and the Arizona senator is competative in the latter, despite the wolverine state going to Kerry in 2004. Many supporters flooded the Obama web-site with criticism after Obama reneged on key issues like Iraq withrawal and campaign finance.

A lot can and will happen between now and November, and these recent polls are only a snap shot in time. The Obama camp is already looking at these nubmers and the Illinois senator wrote an op-ed piece in the NYT to put his foot down about his position on Iraq. The editorial insisted that even though it has brought down violence significantly (despite his predictions that it would not) he is still opposed to the surge. It may be too late, however, to convince some people that he isn't sliding to the center and sugasr coating his words in order to get elected. The polls reflect that voters are seeing him more and more as a typical politician.

The Obama Disconnect - Condescension

I am going to try and document Obama's elitist, condescending attitude towards many Americans. We have to ask ourselves, who is Obama fighting for? Will he stand up for everyone's rights, or just those taht agree with his worldview? Does he think that he is better than us because he went to Harvard? Does he think the first and second amendments are just suggestions? Does he hold any respect for the millions of Americans who call themsevles Christians?

I'll add to the list as it grows.

1. First off is Obama declaring tha he is "proud of America" for nominating him. I made the analogy before that such a statement would be like getting hired adn then telling your employer that you are proud of him/her for hiring you. Condescending? Here's the link to the artcile with the quote:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080605/ap_on_el_pr/obama

2. The next quote shows how Obama feels about religion and guns. He claims that when the economy gets bad, Americans "cling" to guns and religion to cope. Not because we actually believe in God or in the 2nd Amendment, but because we are "bitter." Here's the link to that story:

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2008Apr11/0,4670,ObamaBitterVoters,00.html

3. The next one is another quote about Obama's opinion about the religious voters in America. Here's a little snippet:

"They’re looking to relieve a chronic loneliness, a feeling supported by a recent study that shows Americans have fewer close friends and confidants than ever before. " And here is the link to that story:

http://www.ashbrook.org/publicat/oped/knippenberg/08/obama.html

(Let me give Obama a little bit of credit in that speech, because it is actually a pretty good speech and I agree with a lot of it. he acknowledges that religion has a large role in the public square and that religion serves many purposes that other thigns can not. However, pieces like this show me that he views religious voters as lonely, bitter people who only make religion a real part of their lives to fill holes left by their ignorance or lack of friends.)

More to come. I'm sure I'll find more and that Senator Obama will supply many more as the campaign unfolds.

Campaign Finance - the unknown broken promise

You might have read on my other blog that Obama has already broken campaign promises by rejecting public financing of his campaign.

Here are a few reports about Obama's pledge to accept public financing:

Bloomberg

Outside the Beltway

The Herald/NY Times

Now here are a few reports of his change of heart:

The Associated Press

Fox News

The Chicago Sun Times

Now, from the reports I have found, it's been admittedly difficult to nail Obama down on a hard-line committment to accept public financing, but his insinuations were strong that he planned to do so. (Incidentally, this seems to be a common Obama tactic - to give a lot of impressions but not a lot of specifics.)

For those of you who haven't read about campaign finance in my other blog and don't really know what it's all about, let me explain a tiny bit of why this is so enraging and hypocritical. To understand it, you need to have a basic understanding of campaign finance reform.

Traditionally (before Watergate), politicians raised their own money, spent it, and ran their own campaigns. However, after Watergate Congress began passing laws to limit the amount of money a campaign can raise and spend. Eventually, through much legislation and litigation, the basic rules have established a public financing system. Under this system, a candidate for federal office can recieve a large chunk of public money (%84 mill this year) to run their campaigns in return for their pledge to abide by strict rules for fundraising and spending.

The idea is that too many special interest groups, corporations, unions, etc are getting involved and having too much influence on the outcomes of elections. The legislation is deisgned to "level the playing field" for those who don't have big money connections and to avoid pressure on officials who recieved big money in their campaigns to "return the favors."

The irony is that those who favor this system have traditionally been those who think that Republicans raise way too much money and are in bed with big corporations. Now it is John McCain who has made himself the campaign finance refor posterboy for the plast 10 or so years. And also it is now Barack Obama who has realized that he can do a lot with a lot of money and not a lot of regulation.

Welcome To AnyoneButObama!

Welcome to a blog where we will focus on gathering all the facts about presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama (no it's not a rumor, it really is his name).

I intend to gather the facts for you, since the main stream media does not seem interested in doing so.
